Transmitter Hunt #1

To start, participants will be required to place their turned-off DF equipment in a common area in front of Laundromat just south of Ruby’s Inn.

The first person to find the 3 transmitters and return to starting point will be declared the winner. The frequencies will be given at the time of the event.   Each participant wiFnG1ll be given a tracking card to record the transmitters they find. Each transmitter will have a small flag attached to its antenna or labeled somewhere with a call sign. Upon locating a transmitter, participants will write the call sign of the transmitter on their tracking card. Participants are not allowed to touch, move, or re-orient the transmitters in any way. This is a walking event, so no driving is required to find the hidden transmitters. Since this is an outdoor event, come prepared for any type of inclement weather.

Transmitter Hunt #2 (for the kids & kids at heart)

This is primarily for the kids. Bring your battery operated AM broadcast radio. This hunt will consist of an AM transmitter hidden somewhere around  Ruby’s Inn area. The frequency will be posted in the Dealers area on Saturday at about 9am and will stay on until 6pm. Come tell us where & when you found it, but leave it alone for others to find as well.

Transmitter Hunt #3

There will be five transmitters hidden in and around Ruby’s Inn vicinity. Each participant will be required to find as many transmitters as possible within 1 hour. This is a walking event, so no driving is required to find the hidden transmitters.

To start, participants will be required to place their turned-off DF equipment in a common area in front of the Laundromat just south of Ruby’s Inn. Each participant will be given a tracking card to record the transmitters they find so have a pencil.

Taking turns in succession, each transmitter will be on the same frequency sending a distinctive message in Morse cFnG2ode. Each transmitter will have a small flag attached to its antenna or labeled somewhere with a call sign. Upon locating a transmitter, participants will write the call sign of the transmitter on their tracking card and then continue to the next one. The frequency and additional instructions will be given at the time of the event.

All participants will be required to be back by the closing time to qualify for winning the prize.

Participants are not allowed to touch, move, or re-orient the transmitters in any way.  The winner will be determined by who found the most transmitters in the shortest amount of time.

This event will not be postponed or canceled due to inclement weather. Since this is an outdoor event, please come prepared to handle various weather conditions.

Mobile Installation Contest

Come enter, show off and be proud of your mobile installation efforts. Participants and their vehicles will be judged on their mobile installations.FnG3

Items our judges will be looking at when they judge your installation:

  • Power Connections
  • Antenna Mounting
  • Grounding
  • Cable Routing
  • Radio Installation
  • Operational Safety Concerns

There will be two categories & two winners; HF and VHF/UHF.

Location of this event will be the parking lot halfway between the south lodge entrance and the swap meet area. Since this is an outdoor event, inclement weather may force this event to be rescheduled for a later time. Check for further details at the Hamfest registration desk in the dealers area.

Transformer / Object Toss

Participants will be run through a gauntlet of targets which they will throw old transformers – yes, transformers – and other types of objects of various shapes and sizes at targets or distance for points. Each target will carry various amounts of points, which will be totaled, at the end of the game. The participant with the most points wins!

Participants will need to meet outside in the grassy area just south of the main lodge which is in front of the laundromat.

Since this is an outdoor event, inclement weather may force this event to be rescheduled for later in the day or be canceled all together. Check for further details at the hamfest registration desk.

CW Contest

Come match skills and wits among other CW aficionados, experts and connoisseurs.  The CW speed contest will be conducted in the DFnG4ealers Area using a laptop computer.  Please check the schedule for times. It is open to all Hamfest guests who wish to participate. Everyone who participates will receive a beautiful certificate indicating his or her highest achievable copy speed during the contest. The top winner will receive a prize.

QLF Contest

QLF – “I am QLF” or “Are you QLF?” Meaning, “I am sending with my left foot” or “Are you sending with your left foot?”

Come try to conquer the elusive QLF key.  This is not just your ordinary key, however.  This key is to be used with your left foot.  This just may be the very last time you ever send code and may give it up foFnG5rever!

All participants who give it their best to conquer the QLF key will receive a beautiful certificate to honor their bravery and stupidity… um… courage!  The winner will receive a prize. All participants of the Hamfest are welcome to come and try their fist …um….. foot at sending the best left footed CW possible!!!  This is always a fun event to watch as well as participate.
